When my siblings and I were growing up, my mom was always looking for ways to sneak extra veggies into our meals. One time, she secretly added baked beans to a brownie recipe. On another occasion, she added shredded cauliflower to a recipe for mashed potatoes. Let’s just say that the mashed potatoes were more popular than the brownies.

While I applaud my mom’s creativity in maximizing our produce intake, some experiments were more successful than others. Cauliflower is one of those vegetables that blends in well with a wide range of dishes. These cauliflower oats take advantage of that versatility in one tasty breakfast.

The cauliflower rice in this recipe adds extra nutrition to this hearty dish without compromising the flavor. With cashew butter and protein powder, these cauliflower oats make the perfect protein-rich start to any busy day.

Are Protein Cauliflower Oats With Sautéed Strawberries Healthy?

These cauliflower oats are an excellent source of protein. The rolled oats, protein powder, and cashew butter all contribute plenty of protein to this dish. Both the rolled oats and the fresh strawberries also contain healthy nutrients like fiber. Using a sugar-free sweetener like Stevia adds to the natural sweetness of the strawberries without adding extra carbs or sugar to this dish. To make these oats suitable for vegan diets, be sure to use a plant-based protein powder. To accommodate individuals with a nut allergy, you can replace the cashew butter with an alternative like sunflower seed butter or eliminate this add-on altogether. Finally, to make this recipe suitable for gluten-free diets, simply make sure the oatmeal is gluten-free certified.

Exploring The Different Varieties Of Oatmeal

This recipe calls for rolled oats, but did you know that there are many different varieties of oatmeal? Rolled oats or old-fashioned oats, are made by steaming and flattening oat grains. These popular oats are often used for cookies, oatmeal, and granola. Another common oat variety is steel-cut oats, which are typically used for a hearty morning bowl of oatmeal. Unlike rolled oats, steel-cut oats are made by slicing oat grains into small pieces. Quick-cooking oats are another excellent option for those of us with busy schedules. These oats are made like rolled oats, but quick-cooking oats are sliced thinner. These thinner oats cook more quickly because of their finer size. If you enjoy a steaming bowl of oatmeal in the mornings, why not experiment with different oatmeal varieties to find your personal favorite?

FAQs & Tips

How Do I Store Leftovers?

If you don’t finish your full batch of protein cauliflower oats, place any leftovers in an airtight container. You can store your leftover oatmeal in the fridge for 4-6 days. You can also refrigerate your sautéed strawberries in an airtight container for 3-5 days. I would recommend storing your oatmeal and strawberries separately, as this will maximize freshness and texture.

What Is The Best Kind Of Protein Powder To Use?

You can use whatever kind of protein powder you prefer in these protein cauliflower oats. I am personally a fan of vanilla-flavored protein powder, but you could use other flavors like chocolate or salted caramel. Take some time to experiment with different options until you find which protein powder works best for you.

Can I Use Another Type Of Fruit?

Yes! Apples, plums, blueberries, raspberries, and pitted cherries will work well, too.

Serving Suggestions

If you’re making these protein cauliflower oats for breakfast, why not consider pairing them with a tasty latte? Try sipping a Strawberry Matcha Latte, Pumpkin Spice Latte, or Iced Latte with your oatmeal. If you’d prefer, you can also enjoy these cauliflower oats as part of a tasty brunch. This Sausage And Egg Breakfast Casserole, this Croissant Breakfast Bake, or this Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole would all make excellent additions to any festive brunch gathering.
