What’s better than perfectly cooked chicken breast? Well, chicken breast that is STUFFED with asparagus and cheesy goodness, that’s what! What is it about stuffing things inside chicken that just makes it so much better? I could eat Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast, Everything Bagel Chicken or this asparagus-stuffed chicken every single day. Probably because it usually involves cheese and we all know everything is better with cheese, right?

Also, before we go any further, here’s a pro tip: Buy pre-sliced provolone cheese to make this recipe and thank me later for the time saved. And if you have leftovers, just make Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers! Seriously, nothing goes to waste in my kitchen.

This asparagus-stuffed chicken breast recipe takes chicken to the next level because it’s stuffed with cheese and asparagus! How To Make Ahead And Store

This dish is actually great for making ahead of time. You can prepare the stuffed chicken breasts up to a day in advance and store them covered in the fridge. When you’re ready to bake, just pop them in the oven and you’re good to go. If you have any leftovers (which is rare in my house!), you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just reheat in the oven or a covered skillet to keep this dish juicy.

Serving Suggestions

This delicious asparagus-stuffed chicken breast is tasty all on its own. The tang and sweetness from the honey mustard, the richness of the cheese, and the flavor of the spices will make this recipe a “must-make-again” without a doubt!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken breast (about 4 small breasts)
  • Italian seasoning
  • Garlic powder
  • Sea salt
  • 4 teaspoons honey mustard
  • 3 ounces provolone cheese (4 thick slices)
  • 8 stalks of asparagus, trimmed to fit in the chicken
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  • Slice the chicken breasts almost all the way in half, but keep them intact, so each chicken breast can be opened and laid flat. After opening, sprinkle some Italian seasoning, garlic powder and a pinch of salt on the inside of each breast.
  • Spread one teaspoon of the honey mustard all over the inside of each chicken breast. Lay a slice of provolone on top of the honey mustard, followed by two asparagus spears. Fold the chicken over and secure with toothpicks if needed. Sprinkle a little Italian seasoning on the outside of the chicken breasts.
  • Heat the oil on medium heat in a large, oven-safe pan. Place the chicken in the pan and cook until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and repeat on the other side.
  • Cover the pan with tinfoil and bake until an instant read thermometer inserted in the chicken breast reads 165°F, about 15 minutes.
  • Serve hot!
