No one is immune to snack cravings, but this can be especially true when you’re following a keto diet. Traditional crackers and pretzels won’t work as a crunchy snack, since wheat flour isn’t keto-friendly. Enter these keto tortilla chips! Made with four simple ingredients and baked in just 15 minutes, there’s no better way to satisfy your snack food cravings on a keto diet.

Believe it or not, tortilla chips were apparently invented by accident. In the 1940s, Rebecca Webb Carranza, who owned a tortilla factory in Los Angeles, started making chips as a way to use up irregular tortillas that would have gone to waste. She cut them into triangles, fried them, and sold them as “tort chips” for just ten cents a bag. Little did she know, this simple idea would spark a nationwide snack craze! While these keto tortilla chips differ from Carranza’s original creation, they honor her spirit of turning simple ingredients into something delicious and satisfying.

Unlike traditional tortilla chips, which are made from corn, this keto-friendly version uses low-carb ingredients, making these chips an excellent alternative for those trying to keep their carbs in check. These keto tortilla chips are also quite versatile. You can customize them with your favorite seasonings, from classic salt and pepper to bold flavors like paprika, garlic powder, or even a tiny pinch of cayenne for some heat. They’re also sturdy enough to hold up to thick dips or hearty toppings, so you don’t have to worry about them crumbling under pressure.

Are Keto Tortilla Chips Healthy?

When it comes to snack foods, it’s always a good idea to choose a homemade option with simple ingredients. Making your own food at home is such an important part of a healthy lifestyle because you get delicious food with only ingredients that YOU put in. No frankenfoods, no outrageous amounts of sodium – just simple, wholesome recipes that taste great.

Almond flour is a great substitute for wheat flour in keto-friendly recipes for baked goods and breading – and in this recipe for keto tortilla chips. This recipe makes the perfect homemade gluten-free keto snack that’s crunchy, salty, and incredibly delicious. Combining the cheese with almond flour means there is also some protein in these keto tortilla chips. Roll them out thin and bake them crispy!

Almond Flour and Mozzarella: A Perfect Pair

What makes these keto tortilla chips so special? It’s all about the blend of almond flour and mozzarella. Almond flour is a low-carb, gluten-free alternative to traditional flours, and when it’s combined with melted mozzarella, you get a pliable dough that’s easy to roll out and bake into crispy chips.

But mozzarella’s role goes beyond just binding the dough together. Its mild flavor ensures these chips are versatile enough to pair with a wide range of dips and toppings. Plus, the cheese helps create the perfect golden-brown crunch when baked. This dynamic duo sets these keto tortilla chips apart from other recipes and makes them a must-try for low-carb snackers.

How to make ahead and store

Once baked and cooled, these chips can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week. Make sure they’re completely cooled before sealing them so you don’t end up with soggy chips. For even longer storage, you can freeze them! Just pop them in the oven for a few minutes to crisp them back up.

Serving Suggestions

When you’re following a keto diet, it can be tough to find the right food to go with your dips, especially if pork rinds aren’t your thing. With these keto tortilla chips, you can enjoy the classic crunch and flavor of your favorite snack without worrying about carbs. These chips are perfect as a base for Healthy Nachos, or use them to add a perfect crunchy side to this Keto Chicken Salad.

Tortilla chips naturally go with super simple dips like salsa or queso, but you can also choose a more creative option like Queso Blanco, Greek Yogurt Spinach Dip or Vegan Spinach Dip, and you definitely have to try this Crock-Pot Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip with Cauliflower! If you’re serving these for game day, try adding these Keto Jalapeño Poppers to your spread. Get ready for these chips to knock your socks off!
