Turn a crunchy apple into a sweet-tasting smoothie.

For whatever reason, apples are often overlooked when it comes to fruit smoothies. My guess is it’s their crunchy texture, making it hard to imagine them being turned into a smooth beverage. But I’m here to tell you that is not the case. All you have to do is core the apple, chop it up into small pieces and add to your blender. With a few other ingredients, you can make a delightful apple smoothie. In my opinion, apples are too sweet and nutritious not to include them in a smoothie every now and then.
During the fall season, when apples are aplenty, I highly encourage anyone to try this smoothie recipe. With a little banana, cinnamon, and peanut butter, the smoothie has other flavors that blend perfectly with the apple while helping to give the smoothie a creamy texture. It’s almost like having apple pie in liquid form. If you’re like me and you go apple picking every year and end up with more apples than you know what to do with, an apple smoothie in the afternoon is the perfect solution.
Are Apple Smoothies Healthy?
There are plenty of nutritional benefits to an apple smoothie. For starters, apples are an excellent source of fiber while also containing plenty of vitamins and antioxidants. The banana in the recipe also provides nutrients, while the peanut butter gives the smoothie a little protein. Needless to say, an apple smoothie is also a great way to add to your daily total of fruits and vegetables, so there is little downside to an apple smoothie.

Something Extra…
There is always room to customize a smoothie by adding an extra ingredient or two. For instance, if you want even more fruit, I find that a few slices of pineapple can add some sweetness to this smoothie. Likewise, a spoonful of honey or a small amount of maple syrup can also add a sweeter taste. If you’re in search of a little more nutrition, a scoop of Greek yogurt can accomplish that. Finally, Medjool dates can add sweetness and texture to the smoothie, perhaps as a replacement for the banana.

How to Make Ahead and Store
Any leftover smoothie can be kept in a sealed mason jar and stored in the fridge. However, try to finish the leftovers within 2 days.

Serving Suggestions
The choice of what to pair with an apple smoothie depends on the time of day. For instance, a smoothie at breakfast time would go great with Egg Toast or even Healthy French Toast with PB&J. An apple smoothie will also be a great afternoon snack or dessert alongside Low-Carb Granola Bars or Protein Balls. There have also been times when I’ve made an apple smoothie with my lunch, pairing it with an Avocado Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
