  • Jamocha Shake (Arby’s Copycat)

Growing up, I remember living close to an Arby’s that I used to visit all the time. Other than their curly fries, my favorite thing on the menu were the Arby’s shakes.

One flavor that I always enjoyed ordering was the jamocha shake. At the time, I had no idea that it was a coffee-flavored shake. I just knew that it had a funny name and that it tasted great! I guess that’s just how kids think.

To my surprise, there is no secret ingredient in a jamocha shake, which makes it easy to create a copycat recipe. The key is just having some cold brew coffee available, and most coffee shops nowadays will sell cold brew.

Nowadays, even though Arby’s still offers the jamocha shake, I prefer to use this recipe to replicate the experience but with ingredients I can pick out myself. I can make my own cold brew, select my favorite ice cream and chocolate syrup brands, and use as much milk as I want to make the shake as thick as I want.

Is a Jamocha Shake Healthy?

While delicious, this jamocha shake copycat recipe isn’t particularly healthy. Between the ice cream and the chocolate syrup, it’s loaded with sugar, as well as quite a lot of calories and saturated fat. In short, like all sweet treats, this jamocha shake should be enjoyed in moderation.

On the bright side, it’s super easy to make this copycat recipe vegan-friendly! Just swap the milk and ice cream for your favorite vanilla-flavored dairy-free alternatives, and opt for a coconut-based whipped cream. Just check the label of your chocolate syrup to make sure that’s also vegan.

Brew Like the Best

There is a good chance you’re a big coffee fan if you’re making a jamocha shake, so make sure you’re adding the best coffee to the shake, too.

You can either make your own cold brew by mixing coffee grounds in water and storing them in the fridge for up to a day to infuse, or, if you’re short on time, just brew a regular coffee and allow it enough time in the fridge to chill before making this milkshake.

The exact type of coffee beans you use is up to you. But I recommend a strong, roasted coffee to maximize the coffee flavor in the milkshake. I also suggest either using coffee-flavored ice cream or a rich, high-quality vanilla ice cream to make the shake.

How to Make Ahead and Store

It’s always best to drink a milkshake right away rather than prepare it ahead of time. However, if there are leftovers, place them in an airtight container and store them in the freezer. Just allow the leftover shake to thaw at room temperature when you’re ready to consume it.

Serving Suggestions

If you want to eat something along with your jamocha shake, I would recommend something healthy, especially fruit. If that sounds good, try a Coconut Milk Quinoa Fruit Salad or a bowl of Fruit Soup. A light snack like Protein Balls or No Bake Energy Bites can also go well with a shake.
