Have you ever wondered what it would taste like if pizza and a cinnamon roll had a baby? Well, you can stop wondering and start tasting, because this dessert pizza is basically that—a classic pizza crust topped with cinnamon-sugar crumble and vanilla icing, baked to golden brown perfection. One slice of this could harmonize the sweetest and most fun-loving childhood memories in an instant.

On that note, this recipe is perfect for birthday parties, especially if the guest of honor isn’t a fan of cake. And what luck! Dessert pizza only takes 30 minutes to make, which is way less time than it takes to bake, frost, and decorate a cake.

Sound too good to be true? I’ll admit—when I first heard about dessert pizza, I was skeptical. Why would anyone want to make a sweet pizza? But the chewy, flaky crust that usually contains sauce and cheese is utterly transformed with this sugary recipe. It’s got all the tantalizing taste a sweet tooth craves—cinnamon, butter, vanilla, brown sugar—without any hassle! For family and friends alike, dessert pizza has the potential to delight and impress.

Dessert pizza vs. pie—what’s the difference?

At first glance, dessert pizza and traditional pie might seem similar, but there are several key differences that make dessert pizza unique. For starters, dessert pizza is built on a classic pizza crust, which bakes up flat and chewy, unlike the deep-dish or indented crust of a pie. While most pies are filled with fruit, custard, or cream, this dessert pizza is topped with a sweet cinnamon crumble and a sugary white glaze, much like the icing on a cinnamon roll. Another distinction is texture. Dessert pizza has a crisp, bread-like base, while pie features a tender, flaky pastry. The two do share some similarities; however, dessert pizza stands out for its playful and pizza-inspired presentation.

How do I store leftovers?

Once your dessert pizza has cooled completely, cover it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. You can store it at room temp for up to 2 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days. I don’t recommend freezing it, as thawing can affect the texture of the crumb topping and glaze. When you’d like to dig into leftovers, you can enjoy them cold, or reheat individual slices in a 350°F oven for 5–10 minutes until warmed through.

Serving suggestions

Ready to add more vibrant color and flavors to your dessert pizza? Top it with Chocolate Whipped Cream or Cinnamon Applesauce. Each topping brings a unique burst of “yum!” to the dish. You could also spruce it up with a side of White Chocolate Covered Strawberries or a luscious Yogurt Parfait. Whether you go big and bold or small and subtle, dessert pizza can be a dynamic dish after any meal.
