I like to make Slow-Cooker Rice when I know I’ll be using multiple stove burners at once, so it’s the one thing I don’t have to keep my eye on!

I’m no good at multitasking. With multiple pots and pans on the stove at one time, it’s easy to forget to check everything. That’s why I like making slow-cooker rice, because it’s the one thing that cooks without me doing anything at all.

Rice is such a versatile dish that it can also be used as a base for many other meals. Refrigerated cooked rice is perfect for fried rice dishes, which are better when made with day-old rice, such as this Chicken Curry Fried Rice. So, if you’ve ever wondered why your fried rice is mushy, it might be because you used freshly made rice rather than refrigerated rice.

It’s really quite easy to use a slow cooker or Crock-Pot to make rice. Simply add the ingredients, set the dial, and let the machine do the rest. That’s likely why many people have rice cookers, which I never felt the need to buy. If you have a Crock-Pot or slow cooker, that’s all you need to make perfect rice every time.

Is Slow-Cooker Rice Healthy?

Rice is an excellent source of carbohydrates and is low in fat, while also offering a small dose of protein. It’s naturally gluten-free, and without added butter, it’s also dairy-free. Rice is easy to combine with many vegetable dishes and lean protein for a well-balanced meal.

Vary The Taste Of Your Slow-Cooker Rice

This recipe provides the basis for many tasty meals. Prepare it as instructed below when using rice as part of another dish, or serve it alongside a saucy entrée. To make a more flavorful side dish with roasted or broiled fish or meat, instead of water, consider using beef, turkey, chicken, or vegetable broth for added taste.

To make Spanish rice, kick it up a notch by adding salsa, ground cumin, and chili powder. If you want your vegetables and rice in one dish, combine your favorite chopped veggies with the rice in the slow cooker and let the magic begin. Dinner has never been easier!

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Once your rice has cooled to room temperature, store it in airtight containers, or plastic or silicone bags, and refrigerate it for up to 4 days. Alternatively, freeze it for up to 6 months. Defrosting frozen rice is not necessary before reheating in the microwave.

Serving Suggestions

Serving slow-cooker rice alongside dishes containing sauces or gravies is ideal. Those gravy-coated rice grains are irresistible! While you may be tempted to make mashed potatoes with Pork Chops And Gravy, I highly recommend serving them with this rice. The same goes for Meatballs and Gravy. Yum!

Another great dish is a simple grilled or pan-seared steak with this Mushroom Sauce. Just spoon it over the meat and rice, and enjoy. Of course, I can’t leave you without mentioning some of my personal favorite dishes to serve with rice, such as Panang Curry and Red Lentil Curry. Just thinking about them makes me hungry.
