If you’ve got little ones and you need a sweet, fluffy brunch that they can easily eat with their hands, check out mini waffles. These wafer-like waffles are made from the same golden batter as regular ones, but they come out tiny and cute. That’s why I love making these for kids when I babysit. They get all excited and curious about the strange little shapes of each waffle—plus they get to dip them into a side of maple syrup, so they’re as fun to eat as they are to make!

Although cooking waffles in an iron takes a little more time than frying pancakes, the wait is definitely worth it. Five simple steps lead you to a stack of thick and delicious waffles ready for savoring. Another great aspect of these treats—they’re super versatile, with all kinds of yummy ways to serve them up. Whether you like ’em plain, embedded with blueberries, or dotted with chocolate chips, this recipe can satisfy all your waffle cravings.

Personally, my favorite way to spice up mini waffles is by adding cinnamon to the batter. The warm sweetness adds a whole new level of flavor that kids and adults alike can enjoy.

Are Mini Waffles Healthy?

Mini waffles are not particularly nutritious, but you can make them more so by using whole wheat flour instead of white. If you’re serving anyone with a wheat allergy or sensitivity, use gluten-free flour instead. Want to cut back on the sugar? Use an alternative sweetener like stevia or monk fruit. With so many options for easy adjustments, this recipe can accommodate several different kinds of diets. Everyone can enjoy tasty mini waffles!

How Much Smaller Are Mini Waffles?

Typically, regular waffles are four or five inches in diameter. Belgian waffles, on the other hand, are usually bigger and thicker. But mini waffles are about a quarter the size of regular waffles, making them a fun finger food for dipping, as well as an easy snack to plate in cool designs. Their small size can be attributed to the fact that each waffle only requires a quarter cup of batter, whereas each regular-sized waffle is made with half a cup or more. Despite their tininess, mini waffles are just as delectable and versatile as their larger cousins!

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Once cooled to room temperature, mini waffles can be placed in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap. Refrigerate them like this for up to 5 days, or transfer them to a freezer-safe bag and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw them in the fridge overnight. To reheat, place waffles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 300°F for about 10 minutes. If needed, brush them with melted butter to keep them moist.

Serving Suggestions

What can’t you do with mini waffles? You could take the sweet route, topping mini waffles with maple syrup, Cinnamon Applesauce, Strawberry Whipped Cream, or Cinnamon Roll Homemade Cashew Butter. Or you can take the more savory route, using them in a Chicken And Waffles Recipe. They also can become the star of a full brunch spread that includes Breakfast Sausage, Air-Fryer Hash Browns, and Jammy Eggs. Whether you choose to go savory or sweet, these mini waffles can be just as delectably versatile as regular-sized ones.
