  • Air-Fryer Sweet Potatoes

Generally, we take our sweet potatoes three different ways: baked, mashed, or fried. While they’re all great in their own ways, I’m partial to fried. If I could, I’d probably eat fried food every day. I mean, who wouldn’t? Well, thanks to the air fryer, there’s a healthier way to “fry” our favorite foods, and this sweet potato recipe is sure to satisfy your craving for a greasy snack but without the grease!

This air-fryer sweet potato recipe transforms the humble sweet potato into a savory treat that’s the perfect combo of crispy and tender. There are no confusing twists or turns to this recipe; it’s straightforward and capitalizes on the air fryer’s ability to cook foods efficiently with minimal fat. I don’t feel the sweet potato needs much as far as spices go, so I only used a bit of garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to amplify and contrast with this root vegetable’s natural sweetness. However, if you like a little more punch, you are welcome to play with more spices and seasonings. That’s the beauty of this recipe!

Are Air-Fryer Sweet Potatoes Healthy?

Yes, very. Sweet potatoes are naturally rich in fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, and potassium. This recipe also uses only one tablespoon of oil, though it’s avocado oil, which is full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. This recipe is also vegan, gluten-free, Paleo, and Whole30-friendly, so it’s suitable for a range of diets. All in all, it’s a great dish to incorporate into your regular recipe rotation.

Why Use An Air Fryer?

I consider the air fryer a revolutionary kitchen appliance. It cooks by circulating hot air around the food, which produces a crispy texture similar to frying but with much less oil. So, yeah, this cooking method is healthier than frying, but there’s another reason I love it—the air fryer is more energy efficient than traditional oven baking. You don’t need as much power to run an air fryer, and, even better, this particular recipe only takes 10 to 12 minutes. That’s a fraction of the time it would take in an oven.

How Do I Store Leftovers?

After you make them, you can store the sweet potatoes in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge. When you want to reheat them, use the air fryer so you can enjoy their crispy texture! To store them for longer, flash-freeze the sweet potatoes by laying them out on a pan and putting them in the freezer for 1 hour or so. Then, relocate them to a freezer-safe bag. They should keep for 3 months. To reheat, no need to thaw; just use the air fryer again!

Serving Suggestions

I tend to serve these air-fryer sweet potatoes as a side with grilled meats, like Moroccan Chicken Skewers or Cajun Grilled Cod. You could also add them to salads for extra texture and sweetness. These sweet potatoes pair well with creamy yogurt-based dips or even Hummus. They also make a great side to a Jalapeño Popper Burger or a Greek Yogurt Chicken Salad Sandwich!
