  • Cheesy Scrambled Eggs

As far as breakfast foods are concerned, it doesn’t get much simpler than scrambled eggs. I remember this being one of the first breakfast foods I learned to make on my own — other than toast or a bagel. With just a few eggs, a splash of milk, and perhaps a little bit of pepper, you’ll be enjoying your scrambled eggs in just five minutes. That’s part of the reason why this is such a universally loved breakfast food.

On those days when you’re craving something a little richer, consider adding cheese! Most of us have probably had cheese on a breakfast egg sandwich before. So why not add cheese directly to your scrambled eggs? It’s a minor change, but one that can make all the difference. The cheese melts right into the eggs, and though you can barely see it, I promise you can taste it!

Love a good sauce or condiment with your eggs? Even though it’s traditionally served with eggs Benedict, Hollandaise Sauce can be a great addition over cheesy scrambled eggs. You might also enjoy a little Dairy-Free Pesto, and I’ve even heard of folks adding Steak Sauce or Salsa to their eggs to give them a little kick.

Are Cheesy Scrambled Eggs Healthy?

Since cheese tends to add fat and calories to any meal, it’s no surprise these cheesy scrambled eggs are higher in fat and calories than ordinary scrambled eggs. However, there are some positives to this recipe from a health standpoint. Eggs are a well-known source of protein, and they contain many vitamins and minerals. Plus, the cheese does add a little boost of calcium, too.

The Best Cheeses to Add to Scrambled Eggs

The best advice I can give to somebody making cheesy scrambled eggs is to try out different varieties of cheese. You can’t go wrong with cheddar, as the recipe states. However, there are lots of other options available. For example, Gruyère cheese often goes well with eggs. I also enjoy putting just a sprinkle of Parmesan on my eggs. If you end up making cheesy scrambled eggs regularly, you might want to experiment with feta, goat cheese, or ricotta to see if you like what they add to the dish.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 large eggs
  • Splash of milk
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Freshly chopped parsley for garnish

How to Make Ahead and Store

If there are any leftover cheesy scrambled eggs, keep them in the fridge in an airtight container. Be sure to eat them within 3 to 4 days.

Serving Suggestions

Personally, there is nothing more I prefer to make alongside scrambled eggs than Breakfast Potatoes. The two make for a great combination. You might also want to try Air-Fryer Breakfast Potatoes for a speedier version. Of course, bacon and eggs are another great pairing. If you are cooking eggs on the stove, you can cook Bacon in the Oven. For those who aren’t fans of bacon, Air-Fryer Breakfast Sausage is another great way to complement scrambled eggs in the morning.
