  • Mini Apple Pies

From cake pops to mini cupcakes, there’s something irresistible about small, individual-sized baked goods. These mini apple pies are especially cute and almost inspire me to invite some friends over for a fancy tea party! They are also perfect as an afternoon snack or a dainty dessert for your next dinner party. In fact, they’re even a great treat to keep in mind for a children’s birthday party or school bake sale. Take them along to your next potluck gathering, and I guarantee everyone will be impressed!

With their buttery, melt-in-the-mouth crust and a decadent interior of soft, fragrant apples, they prove that good things do come in small packages!

Are Mini Apple Pies Healthy?

Though absolutely adorable, these mini apple pies can’t really be considered healthy, as the recipe does call for butter and sugar. But nothing is stopping you from enjoying them as an occasional indulgence, as should be the case with most baked goods and desserts. You can, however, tweak the recipe to suit different dietary needs. For example, you can use a gluten-free or plant-based crust. You can also use less sugar or replace it with coconut sugar, which is less processed and retains more nutrients.

Variations Aplenty!

Are you wondering what kind of apples to use? Mix sweet and tart apples, like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp, for a balanced flavor. You can also adjust the type of sugar based on your preference; light or dark brown sugar can add a richer taste. I also love baking with coconut sugar! The all-purpose flour can be substituted with almond flour or whole wheat flour. Have fun with the spices, and customize the amount of cinnamon and nutmeg to suit your taste. Or add in some ginger, too! Pumpkin pie spice is another fun option to consider. Lastly, why stick to just apples? Depending on the season, any fruit works great, transforming these mini pies into cherry, berry, rhubarb, or key lime delights. The possibilities are endless, making these pies enjoyable all year long.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 pie crusts, homemade or store-bought
  • 2 cups chopped apples
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

How to Make Ahead and Store

To prep ahead, assemble the pies as directed but instead of baking, cover them, and store them in the fridge overnight. The following day, bake as directed. Once cooked, the pies can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. They can also be frozen for up to 4 months. The pies are great cold, but can also be reheated in the oven at 375°F for 5 to 8 minutes.

Serving Suggestions

Though perfect in the fall, these pies are delicious year-round, especially with a tiny scoop of ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream. They’re also perfect with hot, comforting drinks like this Low-Carb, Sugar-Free Keto Egg Nog. Or how about serving them with a decadent and creamy Vegan Milkshake?
