Chocolate chips and kale in the same smoothie? Yes! This healthy green smoothie is quick, easy, and tastes like a delicious milkshake.

If you think kale is just for salads, and mint chocolate chip is just an ice cream flavor, think again! This smoothie combines the two, and although it looks and tastes like a fantastically rich milkshake, it’s really one of the healthiest green smoothies we know. Kale, avocado, Greek yogurt, and protein powder make it a feel-good snack or meal that’s packed with nutrition. And peppermint extract and a touch of mini chocolate chips make it so tasty you might even serve it for dessert.
So what makes it so creamy and rich without any cream? Avocado, with a little backup from reduced-fat Greek yogurt. Adding avocado to a blender may seem like a very new and trendy thing to do, but it actually dates back almost as far as blenders do in Brazil. Giving avocados the sweet treatment is common there, and an avocado and milk drink known as a vitamina de abacate is a delicious example. Try avocado in your next smoothie, and you’ll understand why!

Is Mint Chocolate Green Smoothie Healthy?
This green smoothie is a very healthy addition to your diet. It’s made with nutrient-dense foods like kale, avocado, Greek yogurt, and protein powder. Together they give it a super dose of protein, a fair amount of fiber, plus important minerals like potassium and calcium. This smoothie is lower in sugar than many versions and also contains healthy fats thanks to the avocado. And if your protein powder is gluten-free, then the smoothie will be naturally gluten-free as well. Want to make it vegan? Just replace the Greek yogurt with a plant-based yogurt and check that your protein powder and chocolate chips are vegan-friendly.

What Are The Best Greens For A Green Smoothie?
Leafy greens (and more!) can go into your green smoothie. This recipe calls for kale, but you could also use spinach, chard, baby arugula, beet greens, watercress, or microgreens. If you make a lot of smoothies, you might want to invest in a bag of frozen kale or spinach so you always have the greens on hand when the smoothie craving hits. And don’t forget other green additions to your smoothie. Fresh mint would also go well in this one, as would shredded zucchini or peeled English cucumber.

How Do I Store Leftovers?
You can refrigerate leftover smoothie for up to 2 days, but it may separate and become watery. The best way to bring it back together is to blend it again until it’s smooth and thick.
What Can I Use Instead Of Avocado?
Avocado provides thickness and richness to the smoothie that can be replaced fairly well by half a banana. You could also add a tablespoon of almond butter or cashew butter.
Can I Serve This As A Smoothie Bowl?
You could absolutely serve this as a smoothie bowl. Remember the ice cream-like flavor when you choose toppings and aim for mild ingredients like plain granola, coconut chips, sliced almonds, sliced banana or kiwi, and fresh mint to spread over your bowl.
