4teaspoonssalt
1teaspoonblack pepper
Lettuce leaves
4slicesSwiss or pepper jack cheese
4whole-wheat hamburger buns
Instructions
Prepare the avocado by slicing it in half, removing the seed, peeling it, and cutting it into slices.
Slice the tomato into rounds.
Preheat your grill or pan over medium-high heat.
Season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then form into four 8-ounce patties, making them slightly larger than the buns. Press a thumbprint into the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
Grill the patties for about 4 minutes on the first side.
Flip the burgers, add a slice of cheese to each, and place the buns cut-side down on the grill. Continue cooking to your desired doneness, about 2 to 4 additional minutes for medium.
Assemble the burgers by layering lettuce, tomato slices, avocado slices, and the cheese-topped patty on the bottom bun. Cap with the top bun and serve immediately.
